What is Line Number Portability (LNP)?
LNP is a an FCC mandate that requires landline phone number providers, such as GTA, to allow customers with landline phone numbers to retain their phone numbers when changing service providers.
How do I sign up for LNP with MCV?
It's easy with MCV Business. First, download all the forms and fill them out; then, scan and email them, along with a copy of your photo ID, to
tmax@mcvguam.com, or send everything via high-resolution fax to 969-3292.
Can I keep my existing number?
Yes, you can transfer your current business phone number to MCV. (Note: The number must be active in order for the transfer process to be successful).
Will MCV Phone charge me any fees for transferring my phone number?
Average waiting time to transfer a number is five (5) business days; this is beyond MCV's control. While there is no processing fee to transfer your number, unless you request your order to be expedited, there is an installation fee to install service at your business. Penalty fees for cancellation of contract may apply. You MUST return any equipment and power cords to MCV. Should you decide to cancel your number request, you must contact MCV Customer Service at 969-4MCV, extension 4202 by 1:00pm the day before your scheduled install.
How long will it take to transfer my number?
The FCC has not set any mandated timeframes; they do, however, encourage landline and wireless carriers to complete a simple transfer with another carrier within two and half hours. The process may take longer depending on factors such as the accuracy of the account information you provide MCV, the time of your transfer request, your old carrier, and the complexity of your transfer request.
If the transfer request takes more than five days, will I still be responsible for paying my current provider for services?
Yes. You will be responsible for all charges to your current provider until the transfer process is completed. MCV will start billing you after the transfer process has been completed and your service at MCV has been activated.
Should I cancel my existing service before switching to MCV Phone?
No. Your landline number must remain active with GTA in order for the transfer process to work successfully. Cancelling your landline number prior to transfer will prevent you from keeping your number. This process will automatically notify GTA of the date and time you wish to terminate your service. Once the transfer has been completed, you should reconfirm the cancellation of your service with GTA and finalize your account. You must have all signed forms, a phone bill, and a copy of your ID to transfer numbers.

Will I be able to use voicemail while my request is in progress?

What happens to calls while the transfer request is being processed?
During the requesting process, you should be able to make and receive calls with GTA. Also, all the enhanced features you subscribe to should operate normally. Once the transfer is complete, all calls will be forwarded to your MCV Business Phone service. At this point, you will be able to make and receive calls using your transferred number.
What happens to my calls when the power goes out?
With MCV phone, our system will detect if your phone modem is without power and will automatically transfer your incoming calls to a number that you designate, e.g. your cell phone.
Is MCV Phone like Vonage[tm] or Skype[tm]?
MCV Phone uses VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology, but does not use the Internet. It instead uses the same PSTN that the phone companies use. Most VoIP services, like Skype and Vonage, transmit telephone service over the Internet and the result can be poor-quality phone service. Their customers must connect to their computer to make a phone call and can only use a phone connected to their computer. Traditional telephones will not work with a true VoIP service.
